Doors get loud gradually, so most people stop noticing until a neighbour mentions it. Each noise points at a different part.
Loose hardware. Hinges, track brackets and the bolts holding the opener rail work themselves loose from thousands of cycles. Take a socket set to every nut and bolt on the door, snug, not gorilla-tight. This is the single most effective ten minutes you can spend.
Dry rollers and hinges. Steel rollers with exposed bearings are the usual culprit. Use a garage door lubricant or white lithium grease on the hinges, roller stems, springs and bearing plates. Never use WD-40 as a lubricant here, it is a solvent and it strips what grease is left. Never grease the track itself.
Either the opener gear or a roller that has stopped rolling and is now sliding. Watch the rollers through a full cycle; any that are not turning need replacing. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings are dramatically quieter than the steel ones builders fit.
Usually the sections flexing because the door is out of balance, or the torsion bar binding in dry bearings. This is a balance and spring tension issue, which is a technician job.
That is a spring. Stop using the door.
The counterbalance is losing tension, so the door is heavier than the opener expects. Dangerous if anyone parks or plays under it. Book a service.
If noise is the main complaint, three changes fix almost every door: nylon rollers, a belt-drive opener instead of chain, and anti-vibration pads between the opener and the ceiling brackets.
